Amelia Earhart crossed the Atlantic 87 years ago today, traveling from Newfoundland to Wales. "Miss Earhart was nearly crushed by the anxiety of the crowd of men, women and children to touch the hem of her flying suit, get her autograph on a slip of paper, wring her hand and congratulate her on her triumphant passage over the Atlantic," @ニューヨーク・タイムズ reported the following day. This portrait was published about a month later in the Mid-Week Pictorial, a "magazine of news pictures" sold separately from the newspaper, for 10 cents.
