In September 2014, @bdentonphoto photographed Kurdish women and children from #Syria at a Turkish military checkpoint near Kobani, a Syrian town badly damaged by the war. A few months ago, in March, Turkey announced plans to close its two remaining border gates with Syria. Eleven million people around the world were uprooted by violence last year, most propelled by conflict in Syria, as well as Iraq, Ukraine and Afghanistan. Conflict and extreme poverty have also pushed tens of thousands of people out of parts of sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. The @unitednations says this has become the worst migration crisis since World War II.
