Students at High Tech High School cheered and snapped photos during a performance by @kendricklamar on Monday. Karsten Moran photographed the rapper’s visit to the school, where one freshman English teacher has been using #hiphop to help students connect to literature. The teacher, Brian Mooney, played an edited version of @kendricklamar’s album “To Pimp a Butterfly” to guide students as they read a Toni Morrison novel. After @kendricklamar read a blog post about the curriculum, he arranged a visit. “It’s truly a blessing to be in front of you all,” @kendricklamar told the students. “I will be back. That’s a promise, y’all.” #hiphoped
