“It was hard to find parents that would let me drop their baby under water. It was just a simple shoot: no client, two parents, baby Spencer and one assistant. I did a practice run on a doll. Spencer took his first dip at the age of four months; he didn’t swim much but he drifted along really well. He only spent about five minutes in the water. We eased him in and he drifted toward the camera. We did two passes and Spencer probably thought, 'To hell with this,' and started to cry, so we called it wrap. Done deal in less than five minutes. He was a natural. After I got the film back, I realized that Spencer’s dick was so prominent, I was worried that the Geffen guys would balk so I did a casting and shot a little girl from the side so it wasn’t a crotch shot.
