Photo by Jeff Gusky @hiddenwwi | Street sign in a large German WWI underground city which now exists in total darkness beneath a farm field in France. The sign is directing soldiers “TO THE TRENCHES”. This remarkable place is loaded with art and inscriptions that are so fresh that 100 years ago seems like yesterday. The original diesel power plant remains exactly where it was left a century ago. Bottles, shoes, bullets, live hand grenades and food tins litter the ground. The original barbed wire barricade blocking an entrance from invading enemy troops remains in place.

Photographing in complete darkness is a challenge but at the same time an amazing opportunity to bring to light hidden treasures that have never before been seen in modern times.
