How do you photograph the future? @mrtoledano, 46, did his best in an elaborate self-portrait project. After losing both of his parents and documenting his father’s death, he couldn’t shake off his existential angst. He decided to confront his fears for his future by making a list of the things in life he least wanted to happen and creating scenarios that illustrated possible “Future Phils.” With makeup and prosthetics, he became an aging hipster (as pictured here), a stroke victim and a 90-year-old man in a wheelchair. “I was making tangible the worst possible things I could imagine,” he said. “It’s not enjoyable to see yourself like that.” This week, he plans to post photos showing the process behind this series.
