#5 Adelie

Residing only on the Antarctic continent, I loved the personality of the Adelie Penguins (named after the wife of French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville who discovered the Penguins in 1840). They are not only curious, but also quite brazen. As so few humans have visited the Great White Continent, they haven't learned a natural fear of man yet, and they are not afraid to walk right up to you and let you know what they think ("Ank Ank!"). They also have the funniest little eyes that remind me of the old stick-on boggle eyes we used to buy as a a kid in order to anthropomorphize our shoes (or some other random object). I found these two little Adelie's sitting on this iceberg on a zodiac ride and they just sat there perfectly posing for me while I snapped away. It's not often that you know an image is going to be a special one, which is what a photographer always reaches for but doesn't always obtain. But I knew when I was taking this image I would love it.
