#3 The Berg

Photographers live and die by the quality of light. I've been known to sit for hours in a place, and even revisit the same place many times over the course of many days (and even years), waiting for the correct light to shine. When you are in a remote place like Antarctica you sometimes don't have the luxury of time and patience.....the ship is simply not going to wait for your perfect light to shine. Which is why it is so sweet when you have limited time and the perfect light graces you with a rare opportunity that makes you nearly giddy with delight. That's how it felt when I saw this iceberg in the bay surrounding Booth Island, Antarctica. This is a beautiful iceberg, no doubt. But the moment we slowly crawled passed it in our zodiac it was like the rest of the world dimmed for a brief moment and the most surreal light shone on this amazing structure. It's so incredible when it all comes together perfectly. Word to the wise: after you get the picture, put the camera down and enjoy the special moment.
