In 2002 while walking across the Tibetan Plateau Rick Ridgeway spotted several black necked cranes feeding in a marsh. He was excited beyond my limited ornithological comprehension. With 8000 to 11000 birds in existence, this is a rare species to sight. Like many things in life we don't realize how special a moment is till later. This was one of them. •
My friends @Inkdwell are working on a huge mural project depicting the 375 million year evolution of birds by painting 271 species on a giant 70' x 40' wall at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The black necked crane flocks to some of the most remote and inaccessible places on Earth, nesting in rich glacial wetlands above 15,000 feet. ? Wonderful to see art and science meet in a way to further knowledge and inspire. ? & ?! Thanks @inkdwell
