Since 1,000 years in India on the new moon of February/March, thousands of pilgrims gather to celebrate the mythical wedding of the Hindu divinities Shiva and Parvati in the temples of Kajuraho, which are famous for their erotic sculptures. Outside the frenetic activity of the Matangeshwara temple, women turn 101 times around a sacred banyan tree in hoping to become pregnant. Sometimes they try to materialize that wish by wrapping a thin thread of cotton around the trunk as they go. This image was taken during the Millenium celebrations in 2000.
