Photo by @Gerd Ludwig. When Earth was viewed from space years ago, the brightest spots weren't major cities, but instead the #gas flares in #Siberia. These flares contributed to the destruction of the ozone layer. Here, light from two flares illuminated the Siberian night sky. Without official permission to photograph the flares, I had to fight my way through often waist high snow, progressing at about 2-3 yards a minute.
