Migratory Tundra Swans glide through a thin layer of ice, with falling temperatures signaling a deep freeze coming. These swans feed on aquatic plants in the Chesapeake Bay.
Regulations restricting phosphorus pollution from the many chicken farms adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay may now be history. The runoff from these farms cause algae blooms in the bay and harms underwater plant and aquatic life.
Newly elected Governor Larry Hogan just canceled the Maryland regulations. A 'Notice of Final Action' was signed by the Maryland Department of Agriculture on January 16, 2015. The rules were supposed to be printed in the state register on January 23—but Hogan stopped the publication.
