Lim Swee Say speaking at the launch of a book on the late Mr Ho See Beng. Thought it interesting to see the current NTUC Secretary-General talking about a previous one! (See Beng had been Sec Gen in 1966-67.) See Beng was a washerwoman’s son, but that didn’t stop him from helping others. Amidst poor conditions and social unrest, See Beng strived with other pioneers like Mr Devan Nair, Mr Seah Mui Kok and Mr G Kandasamy in the NTUC to improve workers’ lives.
See Beng’s life reminds us that every Singaporean can make a contribution to the Singapore story. May the book inspire young Singaporeans to emulate the tenacity, courage and conviction of our pioneers. – LHL (Photo by me)
