Photo: @robertclarkphoto | Trying to Understand light in relationship to photography may have sent be down a rabbit hole, but this is what I have been thinking about. The word “photography means, from the Greek, “Drawing with Light”. I make no claims on my understanding of light & color., it seems to me that the more I know, the more questions I have. I made this picture of firefighters shadows in the front of my building in Brooklyn. We had an alarm go off of some kind and the NYC Firemen showed up. I shot this on my cell phone and then went home to dinner. I didn’t think about it again until down loading from my phone when my daughter asked me about the color purple and pink (magenta) in the photo. So this is all the fault of a six year old. Also while working on a project about “the evolution of Feathers” I learned we have two kinds of color, pigmentary & structural. This is true of color, unless it comes from emitted light. You have to state whetter you are talking about emitted light color (emergency vehicle’s, your computer screen or TV) or pigmentary color. When dealing with emitted light the three primary colors are Blue, red & green. In terms of pigment blue = cyan + magenta and red = magenta + yellow. The lights from the fire truck and other emergency vehicles were red, yellow & blue. Sense this was emitted light the combination should appear white, but only if each light is on during the exposure for the same length of time and has the same intensity which they were not. So anyhow, I need to stop and get on with my day and see if any of this makes sense tonight. Please reply if you have any deep understanding an the ability to explain. I very easily could have gotten some of this information backwards being a recovering dyslexia. @robertclarkphoto @instituteartist @natgeo
