The Road to the Outer Banks: Pictures and caption by @chrisbickford. Day's End. There ought to be a word in the English language for that particular sensation that follows a long day spent at the beach. The salt breeze tingles your skin, still warm from the sun; the air begins to cool; and the light takes on rich hues that only grow bolder as sunset approaches. Everywhere people are soaking up the last glorious hours of the day: hanging out with friends and family on the porch; lingering on the beach hunting for seashells; staying out in the water for one last wave, and then one more; posting up at a favorite fishing spot with a beach chair and a cooler. Somewhere at an oceanfront bar there is a cold beer waiting for you. It's a feeling that makes you say out loud, in that brief moment of silence that comes when everyone is so content that even conversation seems unnecessary, "it just doesn't get much better than this." Tomorrow there are no bills to pay, no calls to make, just more time to slip deeper and deeper into the coastal trance, a deep meditative state of play set to a soundtrack of waves crashing softly, endlessly, on the shore. These are the moments we store away in our mental photo albums, the images we recall when we need to to go our "happy place". Keep them close to you. #outerbanks #beach #mood #natgeotravel #natgeo #natgeocreative #visitnorthcarolina #summer #sunset #seagrass #coast #bliss #nc
