Today in Hong Kong, Sotheby’s Nicholas Chow presented the legendary Ming Chenghua Chicken Cup to its new owner, Mr Liu Yiqian, founder of the Long Museum in Shanghai. The Chicken Cup set the World Auction Record for Chinese Ceramics when it sold for $36 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong this April. After being transported to Shanghai, it will eventually be showcased at Long Museum, signifying an historical moment of the repatriation of the most important Chinese porcelain.
