For hours I watched a lone black bear perched at the edge of this waterfall catching salmon after salmon in mid leap. Once he had eaten his fill he disappeared into the forest and I temporarily took over his perch to capture a bear’s eye view of these leaping salmon. Every fall Pacific salmon ascend the rivers that drain into the ocean off Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest. Salmon are critical keystone species in this coastal wilderness and Orcas, bears, wolves, eagles and many other rely on the salmon’s seasonal migration for their survival. On 17th of June 2014 Canada’s Federal Government approved the controversial Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline.
