Fans are accustomed to seeing a man resembling a 1700s patriotic figure at National Team events waving a USA flag. He is none other than USA super fan Matt Garthoff, the organizer of today’s VOL-B-QUE tailgate prior to World League action. “People like to play volleyball, but they don’t always like to spectate or even know that it is supposed to be as high energy as football. I kind of put myself out there and hope enough people follow my lead.” Garthoff said the VOL-B-QUE concept started “four years ago listening to the Net Live radio show hosted by Kevin Barnett when a challenge was issued for fans to show up to the World League in Long Beach. I took it personally.” The event has grown from 72 in 2011 to a sellout of 500 tailgaters. #HumansofVolleyball
