We caught up with the Hits Happen team yesterday as they were line judging after a full day of playing. Karen Jerg (40), Geri Durbin (14) and Florina Douglas (4) sat on the bench after the match, late at night, still with smiles on their faces. So you’ve been done but you’re still here calling lines at 10 p.m.? “Someone has to do it. We thought we had another match, then found out we didn’t. So we’re happy just to be doing lines.” How’s the tournament been so far? “We’re the best of the worst [laughs]. We’ve won two sets out of five matches. The sets have been close, almost all our sets have been within two points. I don’t think our record reflects how well we’ve played together.” – Geri How’d you guys meet? “I used the players looking for a team #USAVopen function.” – Karen. How’d that work out for you? “It’s been good. I won Bronze for the Women’s 65 with Mavericks in my first session.” “We gel, it’s fun playing together.” – Florina “This is my sixth USAV Open and this year is the most fun I’ve ever had.” – Geri Why is that? “We’ve played hard, we’re positive and encouraging. We’ve work well together and I’ve really enjoyed how positive my team is.” #humansofvb
