Enduring Rifts - Santiago, Chile. Michelle Bachelet is the leader among 9 presidential candidates. She was president from 2006 until 2010. She and her family were political prisoners and tortured at #Villa Grimaldi, Pinochet's infamous detention center in Santiago during the 1970's. Villa Grimaldi is considered the most important of DINA's (Direction in National Intelligence) many detention centers that were used throughout Chile to torture and detain political prisoners. DINA was the regime's secret police. The center was in operation from 1974-1978. Before it was used for torture it was a high end resort for the wealthy. On Sunday November 17 the voters will go to the polls to decide the elections' outcome.
