Enduring Rifts - Santiago, Chile. A man stands near the entrance to the Museum of Memory and Human Rights. The museum which was opened just four years ago is dedicated to commemorate the victims of human rights violations during the military regimes led by Augusto Pinochet after the coup d'état in 1973 and up to 1990. Former president and leader in the current polls for this years election Michelle Bachelet inaugurated the space on January 11, 2010. Chile is still grappling with the impact of the large scale human rights violations during this time. For much of the last forty years much of the true history has been denied. Today, the country is dealing with repairing the legacy through spaces such as the museum but for many people who suffered undue extreme hardship the reality is still extremely raw. @jonlowenstein #memory #movimiento #tears #water #pulitzercenter #journeys #humanrights #nofilter #noorimages #jeffkellylowenstein #power #vctimas #desaparecidos #museum #blackandwhite #water
