Unfortunately for French protesters, police in France absolutely love an explosive.
Five years ago, as the gilet jaunes movement swept through the country, French riot police often threw explosive grenades into crowds of protesters, mutilating and blinding multiple people.
Antoine Boudinet, a friend of photographer Steven Monteau, lost a hand because of a GLI-F4 grenade - a bomb containing 26 grams of TNT, which was used for crowd control in France before being banned in 2020.
Monteau created a camera with the shrapnel from some of these explosives, which he used to photograph further clashes between police and protesters. See more at the link in bio.
