Mr. Molesley began his journey as a butler of the Crawley house and valet to Matthew Crawley, however after the latter's death, he becomes a footman at #DowntonAbbey. Molesley is also well-read and very intelligent, so after helping Daisy with her studies, he eventually leaves to become a schoolteacher.

In A New Era, Molesley finally gets his time to shine. He uses his lip-reading and storytelling skills to help the director of the film that is being shot at Downton. In the end he’s offered a job as a Hollywood scriptwriter, and finally proposes to his long-standing love interest, Miss Baxter.
