Robert, the Earl of Grantham, spends the majority of his #DowntonAbbey journey adapting to new realities. He starts out as head of the Downton estate, opposed to change and rigidly traditional in his virtues, however eventually becomes a benign patriarch and hands over control to his daughter and son-in-law.

Although he has suffered loss, marital issues and poor health, Robert remains kind-hearted, moral and respectable; a true gentleman.
