Elsie Hughes has been the head housekeeper of the estate ever since the very first episode of #DowntonAbbey. Kind but firm, she is the most important opinion in all things happening downstairs and always manages to keep everyone in line - not even her husband Mr. Carson, whom she marries in series 6, likes to do things without her approval!

In A New Era, Mrs. Hughes remains the moral centre of the household. She assigns Anna and Daisy to care for the stars whilst they are filming at Downton and uses her warm spirit to keep Carson in check.
