Meet the giant wētā. Members of the genus Deinacrida, these critters are among the largest insects on Earth! In fact, individuals can reach weights of up to 1.2 oz (35 g)—making them heavier than some mice. These nocturnal insects shelter in foliage by day, emerging under the cover of darkness to feed on leaves. The giant wētā is only found in New Zealand.
