This shoot addresses mental health with the representation of a split face of makeup and the visual intertwining of natural versus a glam appearance, much in the same way that we connect our interior and exterior health and happiness. Life is about balance, experiencing and accepting the extremes in order to have the perspective of a healthy, happy and sustainable middle ground. This allows us to weather the good days and bad, embrace struggles and successes and turn fear into strength with each and every obstacle that comes our way. Often the side of a person that we see is the side that they have decided to show to us, much like the highlights of a persons life being their social media feed with the absence of their true reality. Behind closed doors the entire other side of a persons life still exists, which sadly some may never get to see or understand. The confidence that you see on camera, the enthusiasm felt face to face, the beauty on a red carpet and happiness and good fortune shared online is undoubtedly balanced by internal battles, scars buried beneath the surface and silence upon reflection of celebrations. Many people simply chase temporary highs in an attempt to fill the void where true love, purpose and meaning is lacking. In a world overruled with quantity and convenience, rather than quality and dedication, it is a plague rotting the soul that has been sprinkled with glitter and fake smiles to paper over the cracks. We may never truly know what people are going through behind closed doors, nor what it may have taken for somebody just to show up and smile. But we can always be kind, accepting, understanding and present for those who truly deserve our light.
