Being a single parent, I have raised my two children (11yrs & 16yrs) alone since they were babies, working hard to provide a safe and loving home for them, to put food upon the table, love and nurture them as they grow and I continued to study. I'd lift weights between breastfeeding and read course material for my exams as they slept. From a very young age I realised that I had to be the change that I wanted to see in the world. I took full responsibility for my life, my actions and my two babies and became a tireless, relentless and fearless mother. I caught spiders and wasps, looked for monsters in the dark to keep them safe, kissed their scraped hands and knees better and carved a life and future with blood, sweat and tears. Not only did I rebuild a broken heart, but also a broken body, as at the same time I fought illness and overcame a victim mentality to understand what it is to survive lifelong abuse and still smile and count my blessings. I crawled through dirt, rivers, barbed wires, electric shocks, over and under obstacles and pushed myself to my physical limits with a smile on my face because it reminds me of the beauty and challenges of life. And after the finish line? I'll walk on red carpets, drink champagne and go to the most beautifully breathtaking places with the most wonderful people because of the life that I have built. We can only ever truly appreciate anything in life when we have first experienced the absence of it. How sweet it felt to test my physical fitness after laying in a hospital bed fighting for my life. How strong I feel today as a healthy 35yr old mother of two when I used to battle anorexia.
