Found in eastern Africa, the red-and-yellow barbet is a real showstopper with its polka dot feathers and red and yellow accents. Unlike other birds that have a preference for open areas or dense woods, this species prefers the spaces “in between”, like riverbeds and cliffs. Here it forages close to the ground for seeds, fruits, and insects, then returns to the safety of a burrow where it nests. Photo taken @cincinnatizoo.
