I hadn’t heard much about it before we went and honestly it blew me away. It’s jam packed with rugged peaks, epic trails and crystal blue rivers. Divine ✨ 1️⃣ Views on the climb to Pico del Arriba. The lesser known routes are poorly marked, so ensure you download a digital GPS map to follow. 2️⃣ Pico del Jierro. Our highest summit, it was a spicy scramble up to the top and the views were INCREDIBLE. 3️⃣ Hiking in Eastern region of the park is the best way to avoid any crowds. It’s super quiet & the landscape is wild. 4️⃣ Olla de San Vicente. A perfect swim spot for a post hike dip, you can literally pull over on the side of the road and hop into the river. It’s super convenient. 5️⃣ An epic cloud inversion above Funte Dé. You can catch a cable car up into the mountains where plenty of hiking routes start. Just make sure you book tickets in advance. 6️⃣ The Puertos de Áliva hike. An easy 14km route with non-stop views. Perfect for a day when your legs are tired. 7️⃣ Ruta del Cares. One of the most popular hikes in Picos de Europa and it’s easy to see why! It’s a moderate hike with phenomenal scenery. Just make sure you arrive super early to secure a parking spot. 8️⃣ The Ruta del Cares weaves through a gorge, with the path often being built into the mountain walls or passing through tunnels. 9️⃣ There’s SO many friendly goats in the mountains. Plus horses, cows and donkeys. It’s honestly animal heaven! 🔟 Potes. The most quaint mountain town. The architecture is gorgeous and there’s even a river you can take a dip in.
