According to a recent report, the orcas have mainly targeted the boats' rudders or hulls, and researchers believe that a female orca – named White Gladis by scientists – taught this aggressive behavior to other adult orcas, whose offspring then picked it up from them. ⁠ ⁠ The report said the attacks could be caused by orcas' "natural curiosity", but according to co-author Alfredo López Fernandez, the leading theory is that the seemingly coordinated attacks are essentially revenge – not for SeaWorld, but because of a “critical moment of agony” experienced by White Gladis. ⁠ ⁠ Gangs of killer whales intentionally attacking boats has understandably “astounded” marine biologists, and they warn that if the situation continues it could endanger both sailors and the orcas.」5月23日 0時55分
