Every major city has its own unique energy once the sun goes down. You'd be hard pushed to complete a night-long crawl of sex clubs anywhere but Berlin, for example, or find a city as ready to sell you cheap cocaine as London.
That special, specific alchemy that sets these cities apart is worth pointing a camera at, so that's exactly what we're doing every first Friday of the month, for our photo series "Friday Night In.” Which we're now running in collaboration with Tough Luck.
This time: Tokyo, where you're just as likely to see a salaryman passed out on the street, as you are a high tech nightclub where everyone's dressed in over-the-top rave uniform. For this one, photographer Chisa Shichida hit up the rain-soaked drinking districts, main streets and clubhouses of Shibuya and Shinjuku. Where, ultimately, they found people from all walks of life having the time of their lives.
“Girls, who were bored because they didn’t catch anyone, exchanged shoes with each other,” she says, while “Queers who play at gar bars in Shinjuku’s Ni-Chrome stayed up until the morning.”
Take yourself on a trip with a slide through @midnightdancingcrew’s photos above, and head to @toughluckuk to see more photos of people partying around the globe.
