Nothing has changed at Ryoanji, Kyoto’s most famous Zen Temple garden, in the 800 years since it was constructed. Its layout of 15 stones set in white sand stand as they always have for centuries. And their layout still sparks the same questions.  Are they islands in an ocean? Mountains in a sea of clouds? Like a zen puzzle, the garden’s designers have left its meaning up to a viewer’s own imagination.
