The events of January 6th bolstered a growing belief that the alliance between Donald Trump and his Christian supporters had become something more like a movement, a pro-Trump uprising with a distinctive ideology, which is sometimes called “Christian nationalism.” But many of the movement’s adherents don’t seem to be that Christian at all—more than a fifth of survey respondents who wanted the government to declare the U.S. a “Christian nation” also described themselves as being “secular,” or an adherent of a non-Christian faith.
