“Lucian [Freud] was very good at tailoring his conversation during sittings to the interest of the person,” says Martin Gayford, the art critic and author, who sat for a portrait by Freud. “I think at the back of his mind was always the idea that this person would get fed up. He would set it up to be entertaining.”

Gayford joins Caroline Campbell, Director of Collections & Research at the National Gallery, and Sotheby’s specialist @tom_eddison to discuss the nation’s great artists, using Lucian Freud’s Centenary and his magnificent portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. The portrait is on loan to the National Gallery for the highly anticipated Freud exhibition this autumn.
