This is a performance you don’t want to miss! At times elusive, the northern lights are a natural phenomenon so striking, people travel from across the globe for a chance to catch a glimpse.

Did you know there’s a whole science behind this stunning show? 🔭 The northern lights happen in the Northern Hemisphere when the sun’s electrically charged particles, riding on a solar wind, enter the Earth’s atmosphere and collide with gases. Each gas produces a different colour. Oxygen is the most common gas in Earth’s atmosphere, which produces a green colour, while nitrogen produces the rarer red hue.

It’s possible to see the lights almost anywhere in Canada during all four seasons. But northern regions are the best place to see them, and the place where they are the most active. Winter (December to March) is often the luckiest season, thanks to more hours of darkness each day and frequent cold, clear nights. The best time? Around midnight — 10pm - 2am is the window, so get ready to stay up late. But we promise, this show is worth it ✨
