When photographing wildlife from a open vehicle I like to have as few obstructions between me and the animals as possible. My assistant @ottowhitehead and @dylan_david_smith (driving) from the @tswalufoundation successfully modified the tracker seat on the Land Rover so I could ride and make images from the “sharp end” of the 4x4 vehicle.

Just seconds after the two male cheetahs disappeared into a thicket I could hear the cries (turn on sound) of a Steenbok or duiker, both small antelopes, signaling that the brothers just had a successful hunt.

Our tree slalom mission navigating to the kill looks more hair-raising that it actually was. After spending a total of 3 months in the Kalahari I have learned (often the hard way) which trees have long dagger like thorns and which don’t. These silver cluster leaf trees are soft like butter, compared to camel or black thorn trees, which will provide free body piercing services to anyone who does not pay attention.

I am currently on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック working in collaboration with scientists from the @tswalufoundation foundation on a story about the impacts of climate change on the Kalahari. Behind the scenes video by @ottowhitehead
