The monarch butterfly’s journey from Canada and the northeastern U.S. to the mountains of central Mexico is the most evolutionarily advanced migration of any known butterfly, perhaps of any known insect. Every November, millions of monarchs descend on the oyamel firs in the mountains of central Mexico. But the microclimate of the forest is changing—and the butterflies’ migration is in danger. At the link in our bio, see photographs from inside the butterfly forest, and read about the environmental destruction that threatens their migration. Photographs by @brendangeorgeko.
