It’s TMI and pretty boring, but so many people are asking questions and offering suggestions over DMs, I wanted to give an update. Frankie’s got a weak stomach. We give her a probiotic with her food that helps. We don’t feed her any table food and only give very specific treats. Any time something out of the ordinary is ingested, she has an issue. Over the past few days, it’s been really bad to the point we had to quarantine her in the kitchen because let’s just say the 💩 was on the loose. I kept giving her baths but the stink wouldn’t stop because the 💩 wouldn’t stop. I took her to the vet and he said she either ate something rancid, has a parasite or ate an object that’s wreaking havoc on her digestive system. We put her on medication to firm it up and yesterday, she yelped any time you touched her. She was refusing to go out for a walk. Even if I forced her out the door, she wouldn’t budge from the front of our building. Finally I picked her up and walked a block away and she was okay walking back to the apartment. I kept doing that because she would only walk in the direction of home. Normally her whole butt wags when she walks, but she had her tail firmly down and still. 🥺 I think she was afraid to 💩. Then this morning, she seemed happier. She went for a normal walk, had a semi solid 💩, which I scooped up off the dirty, icy sidewalk into a little vial for testing. If any potential pup owners saw me, they would put the kibosh on getting a dog immediately. I took the vial to the vet where there was the funniest line of bundled people (it’s 18° outside!) waiting down the block with assorted animals. Frankie is currently on a boiled chicken and rice diet. I’m also ordering a gastrointestinal diet that the vet recommended. We’ve tried pumpkin before but she won’t eat it plain and if we mix it with her food, she eats around it. DOGS. I love how one day you’re feeding them a cup of dry food and the next you’re mixing wet and dry, crushing probiotics, adding a hip and joint supplement and boiling chicken.
