Videos from the assault on the Capitol show a woman, wearing a pink hat and sunglasses, using a battering ram to smash a window and a bullhorn to issue orders. The rioter, who became known as “Bullhorn Lady,” appeared in an F.B.I. wanted poster, was the focus of cable-television news segments, and became an obsessive focus of crowd-sourced investigative efforts. @ronanfarrow unmasks her as Rachel Powell, a 40-year-old mother of eight from Western Pennsylvania. Powell said that, before the election of Donald Trump, she held a wide range of political opinions—but she came to embrace the President, and, eventually, the misinformation he nurtured about COVID-19 and election fraud. At the link in our bio, Farrow traces an insurrectionist’s path to radicalization.
