Trust me it’s a full time job together with my small team. Why is it when some facilities are asked for their lion numbers they don’t know and always give a rounded off number. Today I read an article in which the facility being questioned said they had over 120 lions!!!! They went on further to say that they keep all the lions they breed and that they’re all treated like kings! Firstly, how can they all be treated like kings if you don’t know how many you have to start with and secondly, having more or less 120 lions is nothing to boast about. In fact if you keep all the lions you breed you’re going to eventually run out of real estate and then what? I have heard it all, over and over again. It’s tiring! Trust me I’ve done the sums and they simply don’t add up. When the lions in my care pass away, it will be a sad day, that’s for sure and will mark the end of an era, but by the same token , it’ll mark a new chapter beginning in my life, a chapter where I can focus outside of having to worry about the happiness of some innocent animals that didn’t ask to be incarcerated in the first place. I’m happy that the animals in my care have inspired some people to be vets, and others to be better humans. I’m glad for all the positivity and awareness we’ve managed to create through our videos and posts over the years. So many lives have been touched and hopefully there’s been a level of education too, but at the end of the day I feel it’s far wiser to not keep lions and other big carnivores in captivity (unless for genuine rehabilitation and release) and focus our efforts on maintaining and protecting habitats for their wild cousins. Surely that makes more sense? My thinking has very much evolved over the years as I’ve seen first hand the ill treatment of these majestic animals. Even when they go to good homes and get decent food and water, their needs that have evolved over millennia cannot possibly be met and hence why I arrived at this conclusion many years back. • • • • • #lion #lions #lioness #gameplan #logic #conservation #protecthabitat #protectlions #savehabitat #savelions」1月26日 22時19分 - lionwhisperersa
