Photo by @joannapinneo //Twenty-three years ago I photographed a story on global Climate Change for National Geographic Magazine. For several days we bounced over roads filled with potholes through rain forests (with nine flat tires along the way). We came across several fires and some of the aftermath of the fires like this photograph. The fires are often set to clear land for agriculture and to graze livestock. The fires are still burning today. Numbers show an increase in wildfires in the Brazilian rainforest in 2020. Some 60% of The Amazon rainforest is in Brazil and it plays a vital role in absorbing harmful CO2. I’ve begun to look back at this work from 23 years ago to see what has happened to the places I visited. #Climatechange #Brazil #Amazon #rainforest
