Remember when I posted about Dinosaur Hill closing? That’s the neighborhood toy shop on 9th Street I have been taking my girls to since they were babies. Well, I have some good news! Someone commented under that pic that one of the Dinosaur Hill employees opened up an equally magical toy shop just down the street right before Christmas. I walked over and there it was— a new shop called @themarchharenyc. I didn’t notice it before because I usually walk Frankie early in the morning and late at night when the metal gate is pulled down. I was excited and posted a video on my Instagram story welcoming them to the neighborhood. This is where this story takes a turn. A few people checked out their account and let me know that their last post was about being robbed earlier that day. They had $300 stolen from the register. My plan was to make that the next random act of kindness I crowd sourced money for, because small shops are closing left and right in NYC and I wanted them to start on the right foot. Well, as it turns out, so many of you jumped right into action to help fulfill the Birthday Bud goal with $2 donations yesterday (my phone was blowing up with all the Venmos!) that we ended up with quite a bit leftover. I was expecting to have maybe $20-30 extra to apply, but NOPE! You guys were so generous that we have $771 LEFTOVER! I said any extra funds contributed after we reached our goal would be applied to our next group initiative. So last night, I got to hand the owner of the March Hare an envelope with $300 inside with a note that said, “This is a gift from my online community. Welcome to the neighborhood!” Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making that possible. Now I’ve got to brainstorm the next one!
