In the aftermath, Paris was forever changed, but peacetime offered Sanyu a precious opportunity to reinvent his approach to an important subject from his early career: the female nude. ‘Quatre nus’ is a masterpiece, and arguably the most alluring within female nude group paintings by the artist.
