We have seen at least one on every single dive and on most trips at least 3-5. Sadly these beautiful creatures are classified as endangered and have many threats in the marine environment due to human activity. From exploitation for their meat and eggs through to entanglement in marine debris. Catching turtles was banned across the Maldives in 2016, which is a positive step, but there is always more to be done. Sea turtles are an essential part of the ocean ecosystem and conservation efforts are essential.
