They have a scary reputation due to Jaws but in reality rarely ever attack (respectful and sensible) humans, they would much rather feed on fish and marine mammals. Of the 500 species we know of, only 7 have the potential to pose any danger to humans and even then, only in extreme circumstances. The reality is that sharks on average kill fewer than 5 humans a year, yet us humans kill 100 million of them as a result of overfishing.
