In addition to sending a clear (and giant) message, they wanted to go even further. For this year’s fall festivities, they donated part of the proceeds from their corn maze to organizations dedicated to fighting for racial justice in the food system. These included Northeast Farmers of Color Land Trust, Soul Fire Farm, Farm School NYC, National Black Food and Justice Alliance, National Black Farmers Association, and the Black Farmer Fund. Many of Fishkill’s farmhands travel from Jamaica and the Caribbean to work on the farm, and in a year where the country is facing a racial reckoning, the owners used their land to show support for these workers. Though the apple picking, corn maze, and pumpkin patch season is over, Fishkill’s farm store remains open to visitors (with masks on) throughout the fall.
