For the painter and sculptor Jean Dubuffet, true art was chaotic, unlearned and animated by "instinct, passion, mood, violence and madness". This work from 1974 is a remarkable example from his L'Hourloupe series, embodying his oeuvre in a mesmerizing web of densely interlocking figures, patterns, and forms.
