If you’re going to leave hard projects in climbing areas to hopefully come back and finish I recommend filming your beta, especially if your memory is as bad as mine. As you can see I don’t have the best beta for this route (Goofy 8c) yet but the beta in this video will be more useful than my memory in a year’s time.

I like using videos to analyse my climbing and brainstorm adjustments to improve the efficiency of sequences. From this video I can already see I’m moving too slowly, largely because I don’t yet have the muscle memory to execute these moves automatically. While climbing we use certain senses such as vision, touch, balance and proprioception to give us the feedback we need to climb efficiently and so much of what it means to climb well is to be connected to this feedback (something we rarely talk about in movement coaching unfortunately). However this third person perspective from the video’s ‘eye’ adds another source of information. In effect, it gives you a coaches eye.

This route feels like one of the hardest sport routes I’ve tried because it exposes my weaknesses and it’s super fun! Another reason to return to Leonidio.
