...I’m talking to myself, btw😆

I think self love is less about arriving at the destination just loving ourselves one day and having that be that forever, and more about doing things for ourselves with love and kindness every day. Like everything, it’s a practice. Something to anchor into and aim toward every day. Self compassion is hard! We have so much in the way. Trauma, past conditioning, limiting beliefs, impossible societal standards... Of course loving ourselves with all our messes and flaws seems far away. We grew up in a world that told us from day one that being vulnerable and imperfect just isn’t ok, and thinking that now just because we’re adults and we practice self care we should know how to love every inch of ourselves? No. We’re all struggling. AND THAT’S OK❤️

So instead of beating ourselves up and adding yet another layer of guilt on to the already difficult experience of being human, why not just accept that yes, we judge ourselves? Yes, it’s hard to accept ourselves the way we are. We judge our bodies and our abilities and our lives because we don’t know how else to be. We’ve had a lifetime of hearing the world tell us we’re not good enough the way we are. I say, instead of feeling bad about that negative voice (that we all have in the back of our heads - no one is exempt from the inner critic!)... Get to know it. Embrace it. Stop pretending it’s not there. Go; “wow, I’ve been really hard on myself lately” or “man, that judgmental voice is especially loud right now”. What does it feel like to hold this part of you? To sit with the judgement, the negativity, the not-enoughness? We all want life to be butterflies and rainbows and self love but ignoring our shadow side means ignoring a crucial part of who we are.

What’s a painful thought you’ve been thinking lately? What are you judging? How do you feel in your body, in your relationships, in your life? Give yourself a moment right now to hold just that. Then, drop into the PRACTICE of self-love. Spend time with yourself. Move your body gently. Write about what’s moving within. Feel your feelings, and let them out.

Right now is a perfect time to bring yourself back home to you❤️
